Banbury Borough Police

Mr Daniel Preston, Chief Constable of Banbury

Mr. Daniel Preston, Chief Constable of the Borough of Banbury, was born at a village in Leicestershire in 1844, and there received his education. At the age of 21 he joined the Leicester Borough Police Force.

In 1871 Mr. Preston was appointed Detective Officer and in 1875 he was appointed to the rank of Sergeant.

In 1875 Mr. Preston applied for, and was unanimously elected to, the post of Head Constable of Banbury, on the retirement of the late Mr. Thompson, who held that office for upwards of 50 years.

Mr Daniel Preston was the Chief Constable of Banbury from 1875 to 1900.
