1836 - 1947Mr Jonathan Hall, the Chief Constable of Congleton
Mr. Jonathan Hall, Chief Constable of Congleton, was born at Macclesfield in the year 1846, and joined the Manchester Police Force on the 7th of April, 1868.
He rapidly rose to the position of Chief Clerk at the Albert Street Police Station, and remained there until the 3rd October, 1870, when he received an appointment as Clerk in the Macclesfield Police Force.
In July, 1877, he was appointed Chief Constable of the Borough of Congleton. In 1890 the Force was augmented with every member being the holder of a medallion of the St. John Ambulance Association.
In addition to the ordinary Police duties, the Chief Constable holds the appointment of Inspector of Weights and Measures for the borough, and on the passing of the Act of 1889, Mr. Hall at once presented himself for examination and obtained the Board of Trade certificate of qualification.
Mr Jonathan Hall was the Chief Constable of Congleton from 1877 to 1902.
