Gloucester Docks Police

1836 - 1874

Four watchmen of the Berkeley and Gloucester Canal Company were appointed Constables by the City of Gloucester Watch Committee as "Dock Constables" on 26th February 1836 but had been sworn in as Constables three weeks earlier on 19th January. They were:

  1. PC Richard Goscomb
  2. PC Shadrack Wood
  3. PC Peter McGregor
  4. PC Samuel Oldfields

At a later date they were absorbed into the Sharpness Dock Police. (Likely on the opening of the Sharpness New Dock on 25th November 1874).
