Great Central Railway Police

1897 - 1923

The Great Central Railway Police were established in 1897. In 1923 they had a complement of about 200 officers when they were amalgamated into the London and North Eastern Railway Police (LNER).

Their wreath style helmet plate has the railway company's Coat of Arms in the centre which consists of a winged Politt locomotive on top of a shield containing the arms of Manchester, Sheffield, Lincoln, London and Leicester.

The motto was "Forward" which was also adopted by the LNER company. Both GCR and LNER police helmet plates have the word "Forward" on them.
