Honourable Artillery Company

Est. 1919

Since 1919 the HAC Detachment of Special Constables has been part of the City of London Special Constabulary. 30 City Specials are members of the HAC and have to perform duties at the HAC in addition to their City of London Special Constabulary duties and these include providing security at Armoury House when VIPs attend. After 7/7 HAC Special Constables as well as performing duties on the cordons around Aldgate also provided security for the mortuary which was set up in the grounds of the HAC.

The Drill Sergeant of the HAC Detachment, is responsible for training each City of London Special Constabulary student cohort in the art of British Army Drill. This is put into practice at their attestation parade and passing-out ceremony. He wears a traditional red sash and the picture below shows the duty arm band worn on the right wrist by sergeants — constables wear it on the left wrist.

Officers wear normal City of London Police uniform with the additional HAC title on their epaulettes.
